About Us

Amalia Theatre is a landmark of Thessaloniki’s cultural life, with a history that reflects the artistic evolution of the city. Originally opened as a cinema in the 1970s, it gradually transformed into a much-loved theatre space, hosting the Experimental Stage of “Technis Theatre” from 1987 to 2012.

The theatre is now relaunching under the curation of the TooFarEast team, as a living, inclusive space dedicated to experimentation and artistic risk-taking. With a strong focus on supporting emerging creators, Amalia Theatre aims to contribute to the development of new local artistic collectives and original works, strengthening and evolving the city’s theatrical ecosystem.

Today, Amalia Theatre is being reintroduced as the home of Thessaloniki’s experimental audience and a launchpad for the city’s bold artistic voices.
