Director, Playwright & Actor

Prodromos Tsinikoris works as a director, dramaturge, and actor. He was born in 1981 in Wuppertal to Greek immigrant parents and moved to Thessaloniki in 1999, where he graduated from the Theater Department of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. For three years, he was an actor with the “Experimental Stage of Art.” In May 2008, he was invited to the Internationales Forum at Theatertreffen in Berlin. In 2009, he moved to Athens, where he collaborated, among others, as an actor with Dimiter Gotscheff (in The Persians – National Theatre) and as assistant director and researcher with Rimini Protokoll (in Prometheus in Athens – Athens Festival). Together with Anestis Azas, he has written and directed several performances that belong to the genre of documentary theater, including Train Journey, Epidaurus – A Documentary, Telemachus: Should I Stay or Should I Go?, Utopia in Progress, Geblieben um zu gehen, Clean City, Hellas München, Trashland, and more recently Romaland for the Onassis Stegi. For the Athens & Epidaurus Festival, he directed in 2015 an audio walk in downtown Athens featuring homeless citizens, titled In the Middle of the Street, and in 2021, Somewhere Beyond the Cherry Trees, a post-documentary performance based on Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard. In 2024, he wrote and directed his first production for the National Theatre of Northern Greece, titled 96%, about the deportation of the Jewish population from Thessaloniki and the looting of their property by the local community. In May 2015, he was part of the dramaturgical team and head researcher for X Apartments, which took place in the apartments of Athenian citizens. As a dramaturg, he has also collaborated with Lola Arias, Encyclopédie de la Parole, Paul Preciado within the framework of “Exercises of Freedom” for Documenta 14, and Giorgos Valaïe. Works by Anestis Azas and Prodromos Tsinikoris have been presented in over 70 international theaters and festivals, such as Chantiers d’Europe – Théâtre de la Ville Paris, Maxim Gorki Berlin, Théâtre Vidy Lausanne, Théâtre Le Maillon Strasbourg, Theaterspektakel Zurich, Festival Grec Barcelona, Lessing Tage Hamburg, Theater der Welt 2014 (Mannheim), among others. Since October 2015 and for four years, together with Anestis Azas, he was the artistic director of Experimental Stage-1 at the National Theatre of Greece. Since 2020, he has been a member of the artistic committee of the International Forest Festival, organized by the National Theatre of Northern Greece.
