Boto Strauss’s novel serves as the inspiration for a performance exploring the handling of the pain of romantic loss and desperation. A romantic story filled with vulnerability must make for a unique and captivating performance.
He says, “As you know, one gets the same results whether throwing an unlimited number of coins or throwing the same coin an unlimited number of times…”
She doesn’t understand what he’s saying because, at that moment, she intensely desires him. He repeats the proposition, as it was her request. She makes a great effort to grasp the reason behind his words, but again, the meaning escapes her. Wrinkles appear on her forehead, tears well up. She screams in frustration, not comprehending the subject of the conversation. The very familiar topic. She gives up, shakes her head, unwilling to hear anything, and rushes out of the room.
“The Dedication” is the play for every broken heart out there. Haris Frangoulis needed 100 minutes to transform romantic disappointment into a spectacular performance.
